Is it too early to be euphoric?

The sudden announement by PM Lee Hsien Loong on 15 April 2024  to step down and hand over the baton to DPM Lawrence Wong has taken Singaporeans by storm. Is this the coming of an era to give  much awaited renaissance to Singapore/ DPM  Lawrence Wong comes with very high credentials to take Singapore forward and he seems to be a godsend at a time of worsening world geopolitics.

But let's face facts. DPM Wong has done very well in tackling the Covid19 pandemic  but what are hi potentials as a prime minister is an unknown factor. He makes the most attractive promises that would mesmerize the people but it's still all  talk.  And how they will be fulfilled is still in the air. He declares tht your dreams will inspire his actions and may be uttered in a moment of flippancy. what guarantee?

PM Lee Hsien Loong pays very high tributes to DPM Wong for his exceptional competency in his undertaking. PM Lee Hsien Loong is doing this in order to cover his own character flaw in a subliminal manner. He is drawing millions of people's money for so-called public service but in actual fact he is really enriching  himself. As David Marshall said what do they want to do with all this money when they cannot take it to their graves. It would be interesting to watch how DPM Wong views this obseene wealth which has been the wrath of the people of Singapore as a kind of plunder of people's money. Will DPM Wong have a clear conscience to reduce this inflated pay to a more decent amount in comparable to global standard.PM Lee Hsien Loong draws  no less than four times the salary of the American President This will be a test of DPM Wong's humanistic mission.

I think in all  respect it is still too early to give a verdict on DPM Lawrence Wong performance.  Let's wait till he has settled down and perform.

A typical horseplay in Parliament

This is not meant to denigrade the August Parliament but simply to give a flippant portrayer of an overview of its proceedings.for the amusement of discerning Singaporeans.

Have you  ever seen the interaction of monkeys in a zoo? Do you not think that this could be a parable of the Singapore Parliament because of its massive majority the PAP holds court is a foregone conclusion and no argument about it. But the Opposition can still see some defiant voices to cock a snook at the PAP which could trepidate their arrogance. A fierce freedom-fighter is MP Leong Mun Wai who has become a bee in the bonnet of the formidable Minister K, Shanmugam . It's a thrill to watch the duel of wits between the two in Parliament with Leong Mun Wai making  a mockery of the redoubtable K. Shanmugam despite the eloquent superiority of the latter.  Another quite fierce MP is Hazel Pao but a little less aggressive than Leong Mun Wai.  Both are from the People's Progressive Party (PPP) helmed by Dr. Tan Cheng Bock who could be a prime minister if not for age handicap.

Pritam Singh with his serious character flaw is a liability and could lose his seat in the next general election.

The PAP MPs are anything but brilliant. Some of them speak like robots and could hardly make themselves intelligible to the audience. But this is only to be expected as they are quite secure in their tenure which is a golden rice-bowl to them even if they are dumb. This is the price that Singaporeans have to pay.

Are the PAP's 4-G stalwarts up to  their marks? Ong Ye Kung is the only 4-G candidate who shows he has talent which could match if not surpass DPM Lawrence Wong. But he lacks the patronage of PM Lee Hsien Loong. DPM Lawrence Wong is really a big mouth. Have you ever watched a Taoist priest chanting to the devils and don's you think that DPM Wong looks like one in his ranting? This is all an irony of fate.

Lee Hsien Loong has dominated the political scene for a coniserable long  time, much longer than he deserves. Has he and his avaricious ministers really brought prosperity and progress to Singapore? There is a Chinese saying : Each has his own wisdom (人各有智). What one sees may not be the same with another. You should open your eyes wide to view the millions of people's money that they pocket for so-clled public service.Even the American President draws a salary more than four times less than Lee Hsien Loong. You don's think they are enriching themselves with people's money and are really serving the people?

When will Singaporeans really wake up and vote in people who are really for the people? May \God bless you all.

Singapore-born panda Le le

There has been so immense publicity of the Singapore-born panda Le le in and outside Singapore and now in Sichuan in China that you might mistake it to be some kind of divine angel that is the panacea to mankind. Of course the countries that directly and indirectly enjoy the nebulous universal sensationality of Le le's divine proliferation are China and more importantly Singapore. They make it appear to be like some manna from heaven and to gibe it some semblence of reality it mesmerized a considerable number of Singaporeans and no doubt Chinamen and not unlike a mass hypnotic effect. It is not to deny that Le le is a very cute cuddly panda who Captured the heart of all and sundry here and overseas but there should be some constraint in adulation even God Almighty.

We now have Senior Minister Teo Chee Hian visiting China as if some kind of diety descending on some up and coming civilisation to give it his divine blessings the way his sojourn has been  propagandised. Who is SM Teo Chee Hian? What ministry does he handle? Is not the post of a senior minister some kind of sinecure? Most of the time he is half invisible and like SM Teo emerges out of the blue and given overweening publicity for some kind of ploy  He gets the obscene pay of a minister which is over a million dollars and  what kind of work he performs as an SM?

The ministers so-called official visits to foreign countries are usually a junket and if they are;lucky may get some business contracts in return. So is SM Teo Chee Hian's divine visit to give so-called blessing to Le le in Sichuan such an earth-shattering event that it is propagandised as such. It brings to mind whether his visit to Le le is the main reason for his visit to China and if that is the case is the amount of expense necessary for the trip consisting not of only one person from the people's coffers a justified charge?

I have had brought this up with PM Lee Hsien Loong  from time to time on the question of their venality of pocketing millions of people's money for so-called public service. I and my colleagues fought the communits in the front line at the risk of our lives and we find these people sitting on their fat asses enjoying the luxuries of life at the people's expense while we (I and my colleagues and others) have to subsist on poverty pension. They pocket millions of dollars and when we asked for a small raise to our miserable pension we were told to piss off and die. I invited PM Lee Hsien Loong to have a public discourse but received no reply.

With the present cohort of MPs like Pritam Singh it will take more than a miracle to dislodge the PAP. So what will the foreseeable future present?

PJThum's Nationalism &de-colonisation in Singapore.

The name PJ Thum may not be strange to readers, maybe not the younger generation.

Following the liquidation of the Communist United Front after 1963 there followed a vacuum of nationalist manifestation.and out of this undercurrent patriotic rejuvenation emerged a  group of powerful crusaders headed by a dynamic commander PJ Thum to seek justice for the deprived and down-troddened in such an all embracing cataclysm that rattled the powers that be to the core.

I first knew PJ Thum as an Oxford undergraduate writing his thesis for a doctorate degree and gave him an interview to enable him to do it. After that I never heard from him until recently when he appeared to present me with his tome the Nationalism an decolonisation in Singapore.I think the book is a whit highbrow in view of the litany of academics who featured in the book but it nevertheless does not detract from the magnificient comprehensive narratve of Singapore's history and security even to the extent of some revolutionary incident quite remote to be remembered.

PJ showed exceptionally remarkable insight into Singapore history, especially on the Chinese students' resistance against national service and the colonial intrigues behind the foundation of Nanyang University which Special Branch had predicted would be a major security problem. As it turned out the Special Branch was spot on when it had to deal with NU students' agitation and rioting inspired by pro-communist elements. Nu had the full support of the Chinese community but lukewarm response from non-Chinese and English-educated Chinese.

I think PJ, like most Western historians, may nor be able to capture the pivotal role of Lim Chin Siong in the anti-colonial struggle efficiently to show His dynamic personality which could have changed the history of Singapore.  The MCP Central Committee issued an October Resolution in 1951 to form a second front to complement its armed struggle and Lim Chin Siong emerged out of the blue to become the undisputed commander of the Communist United Front. He would fit into the most outstanding freedom-fighter with a charisma that mesmerized the Chinese masses. Lee Kuan Yew was simply no match in any electorial contest with Lim Chin Siong. Lee even introduced Lim as the future prime minister of Singapore to his guests at a social gathering. This was where God intervened and it was Special Branch with the imprimatur of Chief Minister Lim Yew Hock who put paid to the political ambition of Lim Chin Siong and his communist allies and prevent Singapore from coming under communist rule.

This PJ narrative is worth the pleasure reading by Singaporeans to just think how near they were to come under a communist regime.

Lee Hsien Loong the multi-millionaire PM The world is his cosmopolitan playground

In Singapore's history and as a tribute to  its founder the name Lee Hsien Loong never fails to arouse pompous curiosity in Washington and Beijing. Joe Biden and Xi-Jinping woul greet him with more than open arms. Does profound postration before them bring about this honour? It's fascinating and your guess is as good as mine.

Sonny Boy Lee Hsien Loong was born with a golden spoon and was doted and pampered throughout his early life and never knew a day of the suffering of a deprived citizen and now he had the temerity to pretend  to serve the common people .He and his avaricious ministers pocket millions of the people's money ostensibly to provide public service to the people. What kind of public service they provide that requires millions of people's money to be paid to them?  Lee Hsien Loong unabashedly pockets $ 2.4 million which is more than four time of what the American President get at USD400,000 a year.Is he trying to hoodwink the people that Singapore is four times more important and bigger than the US? David Marshall was flummoxed and asked quite cynically what do they want to do with so much money which they cannot bring to their graves with it, A dumb woody Goh Chok Tong could show such preposteriously shocking dement to say that the PM and ministers were underpaid. He needs to have his head examined by a shrink.. This just goes to show the level of hypocrisy the PAP leaders are capable of in hoodwinking the people that they serve the people when they are serving themselves by enriching themselves with people's money. If the guillible Singaporeans who voted them in every election do not watch out the may wake up one day to find themselves utterly impoverished  holding a begging bowl like a  mendicant.

I had pointed out to Lee Hsien Loong that his knowledge of Singapore's history is quite atrocious, especially on the battle of supremacy  agaist the Communists. Where was he when I and my colleagues were fighting the Communists in the front line at the risk of our lives?  We made all the sacrifices in saving Singapore from Communist rule not for him and his millionaire ministers to sit on their fat asses to enjoy the luxuries of life at the people's expense. They draw millions of people's money and we live on poverty pension at below state poverty line proposed by Asso Professor Jamus Lim  Workers' Party MP. When we asked for a raise to our poverty pension we were told peremptorily by hte then Finance Minister Richard Ho.tacitly endorsed by PM Lee Hsien Loong that what we received was enough for us and they were waiting for us to die emphasizing that we had served our purpose. Are they human being or satanic monsters in human attire? They pocket millions from people's coffers and what we asked for could be so miniscule compared to what they dip from the people and there are only a few of us still living.

Lee Hsien Loong is a Chinese zodiac dragon and I am a zodiac tiger. He rules the heaven and I roam the earth and never the twain shall meet..By an irony of fate we were brought together in combat for justice. It was a parable of David and Goliath but whether in the end there will emerge a dragon slayer will depend on God''s wisdom.

As a prime minster it would be a disaster to make concoctions in his speeches to embellish ignorance. I had written to him that he was treading on dangerous ground in his fabricated condolences to the widow of the late director ISD Lim  Chye Heng. Is he capable of such guffs in his internaional stand-up comedies? The world is his playground and he bum-sucks Joe Biden an Xi-JinPing to try to balance one with the other and both these two leaders were delighted to string him along.

The Chinese saying To place righteousness before family大义灭亲) idiom that Lee Hsien Loong has yet to adopt to make an a public apology for his father's sin. Lee Kuan Yew had iniquitously  commited gross injustice against me and I have requested Lee Hsien Loong to make a public apology. So far he has avoided doing this honour for his father.

Lee Hsien Loong's era is coming to an end what the Lawrence Wong's regime will portend we will as the Chinese saying goes Watch with abated  breath (拭目以待).

A perspicuous view of Singapore's history.

Lee Kuan Yew was an enigmatic and controversial political figure depending from which of the political spectrum one viewed him.

British Colonial rule from Sir Stamford Raffles discovery of Singapore in 1819 had been one which can be escribed as disciplinary patriarchal compared with the inhumain oppressive colonial rule of the Dutch.in Indonesia The winds of change in the mid twentieth century brought about its mortification in which Lee Kuan Yew played a significant role.

Lee Kuan Yew went to Cambridge University in the UK for his law degree and was deeply immersed in ostensibly subversive activities orchestrated by the British Communist Party and its allies which fortified him with a solid revolutionary background when he returned to Singapore after completing his studies and obtaining his law degree to carry out his highly poliltical ambition for political ascendancy.Ironically, England  was the training ground for leaders of its former colonies. But the ground was infertile. The Malayan Communist Party (MCP) had engaged in an armed struggle to overthrow the British Colonial Government and later the Democratic governments to establish a Communist state in Malaya including Singapore. In Singapore there were assasinations of traitors and reactionaries by the Communist killer squad and quite extensive arsons of British-owned \Singapore Traction Company buses.

The Communist armed struggle was not going well for the MCP with heavy casualties and Chin Peng, the MCP secretary-general called a meeting of the central committee to discuss and find a solution. to the heavy losses. They decided on setting up a second front called the United Front to complement their armed struggle.and they issued a resolution which they named the October Resolution which they sent to all their combatting units including Singapore. The magnificent October Resolution turned out quite a blessing in turning the tide, especially in Singapore.

Overnight in 1953/54 hundreds of pro-communist organisations sprang up to the alarm of the authories, especially the Special Branch, but were not daunted by them. This was expected and SB was prepared for this extraordinary phenomenon. Trained SB officers were capable of matching and overwhelming them.Out of nowhere emerged an undisputed leader of the CUF in  the person of Lim Chin Siong who was obviously appointed with the imprimatur of Chin Peng;s  MCP. He turned out to be conssummate leader with the charisma that commanded a mega-massive mass base. His outstandingness in his leadeership was never in doubt.as even highly intellectual activists like Devan Nair, James Puthcheary,  S. Woodhull and labour strongman Fong Swee Suan were devoted deputies under his leadership.

Lee Kuan Yew had introduced Lim Chin Siong to his guests at a social gathering as the future prime ininister of Singapore and David Marshall was stunned when he heard this. The CUF  under Lim Chin Siong had decided to liquidate Lee Kuan Yew and his close combatants like Dr. Goh Keng Swee and Dr. Toh chin Chye from the political scene. They were simply no match to Lim Chin Siong's political mass base and would be easily gobbled up by the Communists and end up lsngushing in prime minister Lim Chin Siong's prison, a Lee Kuan Yew's prophercy that could have come to pass.but for the humanitarian mercy of the Lord's intervention. It was the cue that moved Chief Minister Lim Yew Hock and the Special Branch to act as the divine deliverer and kingmaker in the rescue of Lee Kuan Yew and his close comrades.Speciaal Brach had the power of arrest ut needed the imprimatur of CM Lim Yew Hock to detain for an indefinate period.Special Branch officers under the command of Richard Corridon carried out a swoop on the CUF hq in SFSWU in Middle Road following widespread riots orchestrated by the CUF after the PAP rally in Bukit Timah on 26 October 1956. Lim Chin Siong and all his deputies like Devan Nair, James Puthucheary, S Woodhulll and Fong Swee Suanand all those found there were arrested and brought back to Special Branch. The exrensive swoop paved the way for Lee Kuann Yew to lead the PAP to a landslide victory in the general election in May 1959.and became prime minister.

The question on people's mind as why Chief Minister Lim Yew Hock was so kind and benevolent and was in saving Lee Kuan Yew from political doom and really became his kingmaker.when they were bitter poliitical rivals.Would Lee Kuan Yew have done the same favour for Lim Yew Hock if he instead of Lee Kuan Yew was the Communist target. This was ssecret that Lim Yew Hock kept to himselfand we can only guess. Lim Yew Hock had distinctly shown that he was a staunch patriot and put national interest before self interest.Like all patriotic Singaporeans he would have been deeply mortitied to see Singapore under a Communist regime.Never in his widest dream could Lee Kuan Yew have imagined Lim Yew Hock to be his saviour and kingmaker.

Lee Kuan Yew's victory, as expected, was greeted with a never before overwhelming euphoric ovation and world wide adulation. A lot of promises of a better live was expected of PM Lee Kuan Yew and his faithful deputies  by the people and Lee and his team really rose to the occasion ib fulfilling the people's wish.

Lee  Kuan Yew demanded and obtained from  the British Governor the release of Lim Chin Siong and his coterie of leading activists like  Devan Nair, James Puthucheary, S. Woodhull and Fong  Swee Suan before he took office as prime minister. He imposed constraints on them to prevent them fom straying back into the CUF. Devan Nair was treated differently as he had thrown his loyalty to Lee Kuan Yew. They were appointed political secretaries to ministers who were tasked to keep an eye on them. It worked for a while but Lim Chin Siong and his felow aciivists were crafty fellows who had no difficulty in hoodwinking Lee  Kuan Yew and his ministers and were secretly scheming to return to their old fold.So it was a matter of time when they defiantly divested their political secretary post and boldly returned to the CUF struggle.Like before their arrest in 1956 they were a formidable force that constantly and overwhelmingly disconcerted the composure and stabillty of Lee Kuan Yew in his political survival as prime minister. The appointment of George Bogaars as Director of Special Branch was a godsend to Lee Kuan Yew.who hanged on to him for his dear life and survival.George Bogaars proved to be such an outstanding Director of Special Branch that he was able to circumscribed the CUF revolutionary battlecry to a secure and srable level that Lee Kuan Yew and his minister were able to sleep peacefully in the night. Bogaars had no securiity background and the fact the he could perform such incredible feat could be a divination. I and my colleagues were working under George Bogaars and we were really flummoxed how Lee Kuan Yew could be so dependent on a benefactor that he could not live for a day without his benevolent protection. Bogaars also saved Lee Kuan Yew from detention by the Malaysian Interior Minister Tun Ismail before Singapore was kicked out of Malaysia. The irony of fate was that George Bogaars could have a serious fallout with Lee  Kuan Yew at the end of his career. Could this be the gratitude of a man whose life had been saved by this benefactor? But then he was not known to be humane to those who had served him whom he treated like a oiece of chess on his chessboard o be discarded when they outlived their usefulness.I was given the honour of being his victim of gross injustice. How could a sane prime minister stoop so low as to scurrilious attack on a defenceless civil servant by uttering a blatant lie telecast live to the world from the august Parliament House. Overnight I became a celebrity but for the wrong reason. He acted like he was above the law and no Singapore judges dared to convict him I was left wih the next best choice. I requested Lee Hsien Loong to make a public apology for his father's sin and I am still waiting for his answer. The Chinese call this To place righteousness before family (大义灭亲). Has  Lee Hsien Loong this sterling quality? Let's keep our eyes peeled and see.

The CUF could be having a rollicking exchange of flippant interplay with Lee Kuan Yew to the latter's dismay because Lee was  obviously cheesed off  with them.and in no mood to engage in any inter-taunting with them.It was clear tha Lee Kuan Yew was feeling the burgeoning onslaught of the CUF a suffocating effect on his political polity  that was going to bring about his existential extermination. The impressionable British High Commissioner Lord Selkirk was whether inadvertently or not putting a spanner in the works by holding the famous tea party for the CUF leaders like Lim Chin Siong and James Puthucheary where when pressed by the astute James Puthucheary Lord Selkirk flippantly mollified them the the British would not be averse to a Communist takeover.  As if this could not be the life-line fillip to the morale of the CUF in their quest to capture power.

If Kee Kuan Yew was caught o-guard he did not show it and he did nt react violenly as expected. He could have been having a more sinister and devastating scheme up his sleeve as indeed later events had confirmed. Again :Lord Selkirk rose to the occasion in his righteousness in justice and fairplay. Lee Kuan Yew was labouring under the feeling that the world of disaster was coming down on him. In his not s benign fertile mine was germinated the punish to the death notion of Operatio n Coldstore.to be exected before Singapore joined Malaysia. But this operaion needd the imprimatur of the Internal Security Council. (ISC) for it to proceed. Lord Selkirk, the British High Commissioner, adamantly insisted in his so-called minimalist stand that the British side would like to see concrete evidence of imminent violence by the CUF before supporing the motion.almost upending Lee Kuan  Yew's Operation Coldstore plan. It was the fatherly diplomatic charm of Malayan PM Tungku Abdul Rahman who saved the day by his melliferous pursuasive orarory which finally melted the righteous abstinacy of Lord Selkirk to throw in his support for the motion. It showed that even God was on the side of Lee Kuan Yew.

2nd February 1963 was the date the death knell was sounded for the CUF. Operation Coldstore, the biggest operation in Special Branch  histoy was llaunched. George Bogaars,  the Director Special Branch, was in overall command and it was a test of his sterling quality on which Lee Kuan Yew reposed his previous life. As the Chinese saying goes We have to succeed and no failure is allowed (只许成功 不许失败) was a good omen to start the operation. It's ironical that this was the slogan that Mao Tze-tung frequently used.As a security precaution against any unforseen leakage, The operation task force were assembled at a secret location in Johore. At the appointed time the task force units fanned out into Singapore separately and descended o their targets catching them all by surprise. All the leading CUF activists like Lim Chin Siong and James Puthucheary were were roped in with no resistence.

With this mammoth Operation Coldstore the whole CUF directing apparatus were almost completely decimated and what was spared could not in their wildest dream pose any security threat to Lee Kuan Yew. The path was clear for Lee Kuan Yew to consolidate his political power base ad infinitum until he retired. The British and Malayan fully supported Operation Coldstore as it was in their security interest. Foreign-born like James Puthucheary  and S. Woodhull were rusticated to their home country, in this case Malaya.

It was a colossal task managing the aftermath. Many were incarcerated for long period and there was the question of the humanity of human rights. But Lee Kuan Yew was not known to be a man of charitable mercy  to his political adversaries. He was known to be constantly obsessed with a communist threat to his life and survival which could be reflected by his intense means of self-preservation. So a 33-year incarceration of Chia Thye Poh and over 22 years for Dr.  Poh Soo Kai was a normal conception of his lofty mine despite all the local and international critiques and supplications for their early release.Although not psychiatrically supported Lee Kuan Yew could be  mental case of serious dimension and should have consulted a shrink but in his case it could have been so deep-roote that not even a world renowned shrink would have been able to restore his sanity.Even renowned historians found ii insurmountable to write his obituary. There is a Chinese saying A general wins a war and ten thousand bones become ashes (一将功成万骨灰)

Anyway, in spite of his serious character flaws he was both a founding-father benefactor and an iniquitous persecutor  but had made supreme contributions to Singapore, not least to turn it to first class status from a third class village, are substantial evidence of his dedicated and pinnacle service to bring prosperity and eminence to the people and the country. There were his loyal admirers who made sure that his centenary would be allowed to pass without a grandiose commenoration of the hundred anniversary of auspicious birth.

His son Lee Hsien Loong has now suceeded him and how he has performed to serve the peole will be the subject of a narrative that I will pen at a later date.

A superstar is born -a paean to the Singapore Sprint Queen

Never in the history of Singapore sports has a female athlete captured such a rapturous outburst of ovation for a female Singapore athlete for her spectacular singular achievement of capturing the gold medal in the 100 metre event of the Asia Game in Hangzhou in China.  Shanti Pereira is the Singapore Sprint Queen in every sense of he word. Even PM Lee Hsien and President Tharman Shanmugaratnam were overawed and proudly added in their congratulation.

Could it be a divine disposition that after fifty years of drought in the female sprint talent a sprint champion is born to take the world by storm. And coming from a minority ethnic group makes it all the more remarkable. She almost made it to a sprint double but missed the 100 metre gold by a whisker. She  is indeed a sprint champion in Asia and the Olympic sprint contest with world female athlete will not daunt her. So far there does not appear to be any formidable challenger to Shanti Pereira on the world athletic scene  and she may just have the nerve to pull off a victory.in the sprint events in the Olympic.

The training to prepare her for the competition was gruelling and her personal coach Luis Cunha ha done a vey remarkable job in perfecting her for the race. As a coach he has to be unobtrusive but from what little that had been made public about his expertise  for training Shanti  Pereira I think he deserves a national medal for his dedication. I think quite a lot of credit should be given to him for Shanti's achievements.

Almost overnight Shanti Pereira has become  a household name not only in Singapore but in the West as well. Dos not the PM Lee Hsien Loong think some form of national prestige should be awarded Shanti Pereira? Money she may demur but a national medal will certainly boost her confidance.
